Chris Gallant, a Democrat and former National Guard member, ran for a House seat in New York. His campaign gained national media attention in September when it was revealed that during his time in the Guard, Gallant, who is gay, modeled for a publication in explicit fetish wear.

Gallant, 37, conceded to LaLota Wednesday evening, as he was trailing by roughly 7,000 votes, according to state election data.

“Last night, the voters of the First District made their decision, and I fully respect it,” Gallant said.

Incumbent Republican Rep. Nick LaLota claimed victory against Gallant, holding onto the Long Island seat. LaLota, 48, has represented the district since 2022, succeeding former EPA Commissioner Lee Zeldin. His campaign emphasized pro-police policies, border security, tax reduction, and opposition to what he called the ‘Democrat Party’s march toward socialism.’

LaLota declared his win Tuesday night in the conservative NY-01 district, leading Gallant by about 51% to 49%, according to Newsday. “To every Long Islander who voted for me, thank you for your trust,” LaLota said in his victory speech. “I will work hard every day to keep that trust. And for those who didn’t vote for me, I want you to know something — I am your congressman too,” he added.

Gallant’s campaign, which had been heavily favored, faced challenges as the controversy over his past modeling resurfaced. The incident, which initially drew attention from the Gateway Pundit, became a focal point of the race, influencing voter perceptions and ultimately contributing to LaLota’s victory.
