President Donald Trump joined the American team at the closing ceremony of the Presidents Cup on Sunday to celebrate their 11th consecutive win in the prestigious golf tournament. Trump, who attended as the tournament’s honorary chairman, spent the day watching the team’s performance and was present for their victory.
Team Captain Credits Trump for the Win
American Captain Brandt Snedeker took the opportunity to publicly thank President Trump for the win, acknowledging the President’s influence on the team’s performance. Snedeker said, “He told me, ‘I was going to bring some energy for you guys. You guys need it.’ And I told him if we did this, he gets all the credit.”
Snedeker also described the moment as “really special because I got to meet President Trump today on the first tee,” which drew a loud cheer from the crowd. He reiterated that Trump’s presence brought energy and motivation, adding, “He definitely brought the juice, and I told him if this turned out our way, I was going to give him the credit.”
Trump Presents Trophy and Congratulates Team
Following the ceremony, President Trump presented the trophy to the American team, marking the conclusion of the event. He then spent time shaking hands and congratulating the entire team, showing his support for their achievement.
Earlier in the day, Trump made a grand entrance at the tournament at Medinah Country Club in Chicago with an Air Force One flyover. The crowd of “USA” chanting patriots welcomed him with enthusiasm, and after his speech, they began chanting “Four more years,” which Trump acknowledged by pumping his fist, further energizing the crowd.
Historical Context of Trump’s Involvement
This marks Trump’s return to the Presidents Cup as honorary chairman after his last attendance in 2017, where the Americans also secured a win. The event highlights Trump’s ongoing engagement with golf and his support for American athletes, both on and off the course.
