Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has accused the Biden administration of releasing suspected terrorists after arrests, claiming the approach contrasts sharply with the Trump era’s aggressive strategy. Mullin made the remarks during an interview with the ‘Ruthless Podcast,’ highlighting a significant shift in how the U.S. handles national security threats.
Release of Terror Suspects Under Biden
Mullin stated that under President Trump, the administration arrested 2,210 terrorists, many of whom claimed asylum with fake identities. However, he alleged that the Biden administration released these individuals, including those linked to groups like the Sinaloa Cartel, Tren de Aragua, and MS-13, which are designated as terrorist organizations.
A 2024 House Judiciary Committee report supports Mullin’s claims, revealing that the Biden-Harris administration released at least 99 illegal aliens on the terror watchlist into American communities. The report also identified three individuals with potential ISIS ties who were released after using the CBP One app to enter the country.
Al-Shabaab Case and ICE Challenges
In one notable case, the Biden administration reportedly released an al-Shabaab terrorist in 2023, only to capture him a year later in Minnesota. Mullin noted that 97% of the individuals encountered by DHS within 27 hours were released, raising concerns about the effectiveness of current security measures.
A former senior ICE official told the committee that the Biden-Harris open-border policies have made it more difficult for ICE to identify and arrest national security threats, further complicating efforts to combat terrorism.
Trump’s Strategy and Future Vigilance
Mullin credited President Trump for providing the administration with the authority to take a proactive stance on national security, emphasizing a shift from defense to offense. He highlighted the importance of cybersecurity and aggressive counterterrorism efforts.
As the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks approaches, Mullin vowed to dedicate his efforts to ensuring the U.S. remains vigilant against any potential terrorist threats, underscoring the critical need for a robust and proactive security strategy.
