Dog Leads Officers to Fallen Resident After 3-Hour Struggle

Police in Leawood, Kansas, are praising a loyal dog for guiding officers to its owner, who had fallen and been unable to get up for more than three hours. Bodycam footage from the Leawood Police Department, released this week, shows how the canine’s actions led to a critical discovery.

The incident occurred on September 17 in a residential neighborhood of the Kansas City suburb. An officer on patrol first encountered the dog in the road, but there was no owner in sight. The officer noticed the dog was on a leash and approached it, addressing the canine with a simple ‘Hi’ and asking it to return home.

Follow the Dog to the Home

The officer followed the dog about a half a block to what appeared to be its home. The dog led the officer up the driveway, where the garage door was open. Another dog emerged from the house, and the officer asked, ‘Is this where you live?’ At that moment, the officer spotted the homeowner ‘on the floor, unable to get up,’ according to police.

It was later confirmed that the resident had been on the floor for more than three hours. Thanks to the dog’s loyalty, the officer was able to find the person and provide the necessary medical assistance. The resident is now recovering safely at home, according to police.

Authorities did not release the gender or age of the resident, but they emphasized the importance of the dog’s role in the incident. ‘Thanks to the resident’s loyal companion, our officer was able to find them and get them the help they needed,’ police stated.
