Halle Berry has denied allegations that she abused her 13-year-old son, Maceo, in a custody dispute with her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez. Martinez filed for sole custody after claiming Berry physically abused Maceo during a heated exchange on Sept. 26. The allegations included claims that Berry used a chokehold on their son after he was gaming, according to TMZ.
Berry Submits Video Contradicting Claims
Berry responded with a declaration on Oct. 5, stating she has never physically, emotionally, or otherwise abused Maceo. She emphasized her role as a victim of domestic violence and her support for victims, according to People. She also stated she would never hurt her child.
Berry submitted video evidence that she claims directly contradicts Martinez’s version of events. She described the incident as playful roughhousing, which they frequently do, but noted that Maceo became upset and pushed her after realizing she was recording the interaction.
Legal Proceedings and Custody Dispute
Martinez was granted a temporary restraining order following his custody filing. Berry has since applied to restore their 50/50 custody agreement, arguing that Martinez is not capable of providing child-centered guidance. She also cited concerns about Martinez’s behavior at Maceo’s school, as noted by the school itself.
Berry further explained that Maceo is neurodivergent and can be angry and combative after visits with his father. She claims that Maceo requires professional help, but she and Martinez disagree on how to proceed with his care.
As the legal battle continues, both parties remain at odds over custody and the alleged incidents surrounding their son. The case highlights the complexities of child custody disputes and the challenges of navigating personal and legal conflicts in the public eye.
