Three years after the October 7, 2023, attacks by Hamas, Israelis gathered to honor the victims and reflect on the tragedy that reshaped their nation. The deadliest attack on Jewish people since the Holocaust left over 1,200 dead and 251 taken hostage, marking a dark chapter in modern history.

Nova Festival Memorial Ceremony

At the Nova Festival memorial site, where hundreds of partygoers and security forces were murdered, survivors and families organized a national ceremony to remember the victims. Israel President Isaac Herzog addressed the crowd, stating, “We are here to tell their story and say to the world we shall dance again.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also paid tribute to the victims, lighting a memorial candle at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem. He emphasized the cost of the attack, stating, “Today, I lit a memorial candle at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem, commemorating every victim murdered on the 7th of October by the monsters of Hamas.”

Video of the Attack

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released a video of clips from October 7, 2023, showing the Nova festival goers responding to the sirens as Hamas launched its attack. The footage highlighted the chaos and terror of the moment, as well as the aftermath of the violence.

International Reactions

Former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his condolences to Netanyahu, stating, “That was a horrible day, a horrible tragedy – and the other side is paying a very big price for what they did on October 7th, believe me.”

Through a U.S.-brokered deal, the last of the Israeli hostages were released, with the final body returned in January 2026. The event marked a significant moment in the ongoing conflict, as Israel continues to recover and rebuild in the wake of the attacks.
