Ohio Dems Compare Trump Defeat to Viktor Orban’s Fall

Undercover footage obtained by Breitbart News reveals an Ohio Democrat field organizer drawing parallels between the defeat of former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the need to defeat Republican candidates in the state. The footage features Zoie Smith, a field organizer from OhioWins, the Ohio Democrat Party’s primary field program, discussing the comparison during a conversation.
Comparing Orban to Trump
Smith described Orban as a “dictator and bad person” who was despised in urban areas but supported by rural Hungarians. She claimed Orban was an “authoritarian leader that was in office for decades, that was like basically stealing elections and denying the popular vote.” Smith drew a parallel to the United States, saying, “I feel like those are very similar parallels here in the United States with like Trump and the MAGA movement. You have your urban cities, your blue states that are staunchly like, ‘We hate Trump. We need to get him out of here. He’s a dictator in the making.’ In Hungary, we need our blue areas to show up and actually get out to the polls, and that’s what we have here in Ohio.”
Irony in Tactics
In a twist of irony, Democrats have attempted to use similar tactics against Trump as Hungary’s government did against Orban. This includes efforts to ban Trump from public office and sending overzealous prosecutors to investigate him and his supporters. Smith concluded, “The path to Sherrod Brown winning is getting like over 75 percent turnout in some of our densest and most blue precincts, wards, and districts in the state of Ohio. It has been done. It’s been done overseas. It’s been done in other states. How can we mimic that?”
Political Strategy and Turnout
The comparison highlights the strategic focus on urban areas and high voter turnout as key to securing victories for Democratic candidates. Smith’s remarks underscore the belief that replicating successful strategies from other regions and countries can be crucial in Ohio’s upcoming elections. This approach reflects a broader trend in political strategy, where historical and international examples are used to inform domestic campaigns.
