Kid Rock is set to release his new album, Halfway 2 Jesus, this Saturday, October 17. The lead single, James 1:17 (Jesus Is King), marks his return to a more faith-focused musical direction. The album includes a collaboration with Eminem on the track 7 Sins, which is set to drop on Eminem’s 54th birthday.
Although the collaboration may seem unexpected, it’s not the first time the two artists have worked together. Eminem appeared on Kid Rock’s 1998 album Devil Without a Cause on the track F— Off, and Kid Rock later made an appearance in the music video for Eminem’s 2013 single Berzerk.
Eminem has also previously referenced Jesus in his music. In 2022, he appeared on a DJ Khaled remix of Kanye West’s Use This Gospel, rapping lines such as “Because He is my shepherd / I’m armed with Jesus, my weapon is prayer”. While these references have sparked discussions about Eminem’s faith, his spiritual journey remains a personal matter.
Kid Rock has also spoken about his faith, stating in August, “I’ve grown a lot stronger in my faith”. Despite the personal nature of their spiritual journeys, the two artists have set aside their political differences to create music together.
Kid Rock says he hopes his collaboration with Eminem on his new Christian music album "sets an example for people" who have allowed political differences to tear their relationships apart. "I'm proud of the guests who joined me, especially my old friend Eminem. His verse speaks to something we've talked about and that really needs to be heard: we differ politically and on other things, but we've stayed friends through it all." "We hope that sets an example for people who've lost friends or stopped talking to family because they think differently." (via @Complex) 📸: Kevin Mazur / WireImage
While the album may signal a new musical direction, the true significance of the collaboration lies in its potential to bridge divides in a politically polarized world. Both artists have used their platforms to discuss faith, and their partnership may offer a message of unity to their fans.
As the world continues to grapple with division, the collaboration between Kid Rock and Eminem serves as a reminder that music can transcend political boundaries and bring people together. Whether this is a genuine expression of faith or a strategic move remains to be seen, but the impact of their collaboration is undeniable.
