Elon Musk’s donations to GOP groups exceed all Democratic contributions in key races.

Elon Musk has become the largest known donor in this year’s midterm elections, with his contributions to a single Republican super PAC surpassing what its Democratic counterpart raised during the quarter. Since the beginning of July, Musk has donated more than $276 million to Republican groups and the super PAC he founded, according to figures provided to the New York Times by his representatives.
Record-Breaking Political Contributions
Musk’s $158 million in donations this summer to the Senate Leadership Fund represent one of the largest political contributions in U.S. history. His money alone exceeded everything the Democratic Senate Majority PAC raised from all its donors during the quarter. In addition, Musk donated over $76 million to the America PAC, a super PAC he created in 2024 to support President Donald Trump’s campaign. This group is active in seven Senate battlegrounds and nearly three dozen House races.
Additional Contributions to GOP Causes
Musk also contributed $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC, which supports Texas Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton, and $10 million to the Republican Governors Association. He also gave $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association.
Surpassing Previous Election Spending
Musk has now given roughly $366 million to federal committees during the 2025-26 election cycle, surpassing the $290 million he contributed during the 2024 election. Despite his May 2025 statement that he would scale back his political spending, Musk continues to invest heavily in GOP causes.
Republican Optimism Amid Polling Challenges
America PAC spokesman Andrew Romeo stated that the donations give Republicans a “fighting chance” in November. He warned that if Democrats take control of Washington and win key gubernatorial and attorney general races, the country risks becoming a socialist, woke, and borderless nation. Despite the bleak polling for the GOP, Republicans still hold a significant financial advantage, having outspent Democrats by $400 million this election cycle.
