Teresa Giudice, a star of ‘The Real Housewives of New Jersey,’ recently visited the White House to plead for her ex-husband Joe Giudice’s return to the United States. The visit occurred during a Columbus Day celebration of Italian-American heritage, at the invitation of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. Giudice, who served 11 months in prison for fraud-related charges, is still advocating for her ex-husband’s repatriation despite their divorce.
Joe Giudice’s Deportation and Legal History
Joe Giudice, who was not a U.S. citizen, was deported to Italy in 2019 after serving 41 months in federal prison for fraud. He had used falsified documents to secure $5 million in loans and failed to report $1 million in income to the IRS. Teresa Giudice, who was also incarcerated for her role in the scheme, has since become an outspoken advocate for her ex-husband’s return.
Gia Giudice’s Public Appeal
Gia Giudice, the couple’s eldest daughter, publicly asked Trump for a pardon in July 2025, citing the hope that her father could be granted a second chance. In a video shared on social media, she expressed the emotional toll of her father’s deportation and the family’s ongoing struggle. She also referenced Trump’s pardons of the Chrisley family, who were convicted of fraud and tax evasion, as inspiration for her appeal.
White House Response and Pardon Process
During the visit, Deputy Assistant to the President Lynne Patton emphasized that she does not make pardon decisions. However, she expressed support for second chances, acknowledging that the justice system can show grace. Gia’s appeal highlights the ongoing debate over the fairness of the U.S. legal system and the potential for presidential pardons to offer redemption.
