President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance have both denied any involvement in the FBI raid on the home of Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar, as Democrats accused the Trump administration of weaponizing law enforcement to target political opponents.

Trump and Vance Deny Involvement

President Donald Trump reiterated that he had “nothing to do” with the raid on Rep. Omar’s home, though he continued to criticize her, calling her “a terrible person.” The raid, conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), was part of an investigation into Omar’s immigration paperwork, according to an unnamed source initially revealed to Fox News.

“I’ve always found her to be totally crooked personally, but that has nothing to do with me,” Trump said. “I think she’s a terrible person, just a complainer. She comes from a country that is – a non-country, and then she comes over here and she complains about our constitution,” he added.

Vice President JD Vance told reporters that there were “some serious allegations” against the congresswoman but clarified that he had no advance notice of the raid. “We try to run our Department of Justice in a fair and honest way,” he said. “We try to let the law follow the facts, rather than creating facts just to prosecute people we don’t like.”

Democrats Accuse Administration of Abuse of Power

Representative Ilhan Omar’s office condemned the raid as an “outrageous abuse of power” and accused the Trump administration of using federal law enforcement to target political enemies. “For a decade, Donald Trump has relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with inflammatory rhetoric,” her office stated. “Now, those attacks have escalated to a pointless federal raid.”

Democratic leaders, including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, echoed these claims, calling the raid an example of the Trump administration’s “abuse of power.” “This morning, the federal government turned the full force of the Department of Homeland Security against a sitting member of Congress for the offense of disagreeing with the White House,” Mamdani said.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Pramila Jayapal also joined the criticism, with Jayapal calling the raid a “disgusting abuse of power” from an “out of control president” who has targeted Omar and the Somali American community.

Legal and Political Reactions

The raid has sparked significant political backlash, with Democrats accusing the Trump administration of using the legal system as a tool for political retaliation. Omar’s office emphasized that the congresswoman has done “nothing wrong” and warned that no president should be able to use federal power to intimidate political opponents.

Despite Trump’s insistence that he had no role in the raid, Democrats continue to tie the operation to the administration, framing it as part of a broader pattern of abuse of power. The situation remains under intense scrutiny as both sides continue to exchange accusations and counterclaims.
