Hollywood producer Chuck Lorre, known for creating hit shows like The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men, warned during a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience that societies that abandon God may turn to communism. Lorre argued that removing religious belief often leads to the rise of authoritarian regimes, whether they are communist parties or fascist dictatorships.

Religious Belief and Political Power

“When civilizations or cultures took God out of the picture, they replaced it with a Communist party, with a fascist dictator,” Lorre said. “It’s the same idea: ‘Organize around me. It doesn’t matter if I’m right or not, organize around me.’ And people will,” he warned. “And if you take that away from them, they get angry.” Lorre emphasized that the loss of a central belief system can destabilize societies, leaving people feeling lost and vulnerable.

Spiritual Solutions and Fame

Lorre also spoke about the importance of spiritual solutions over worldly pursuits. “The real solution — I’m going to say it and then regret it — but the real solution is a spiritual solution. You have to find something beyond this world,” he said. While he admitted that fame and material success are appealing, he argued they are not the real answer to life’s deeper questions.

Co-opted Terms and Past Controversies

Rogan asked why Lorre would regret stating that, to which Lorre responded that he didn’t want to be associated with “new age bullshit.” He acknowledged that the term “spirituality” has been co-opted by those who are seen as flaky, but he believes the search for meaning is essential. Lorre also noted that he has a history of controversial remarks, including calling First Lady Melania Trump a “Yugoslavian escort” and President Donald Trump a “Russian asset.” The White House reportedly advised him to seek psychiatric help for these comments.
