Al Pacino has been named the next recipient of the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award, a prestigious honor recognizing his extraordinary contributions to the entertainment industry. The 86-year-old actor, best known for his iconic roles in ‘The Godfather’ trilogy, ‘Scent of a Woman,’ and ‘Dog Day Afternoon,’ is the 62nd actor to receive this top honor from the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

Pacino will accept the award on February 28 at the 33rd annual Actor Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be streamed live on Netflix. The award also acknowledges his humanitarian efforts, including work in disaster relief, fighting hunger and poverty, and supporting local theater companies like the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles.

The native New Yorker began his career in theater before being cast as Michael Corleone in ‘The Godfather’ in 1972, a role that catapulted him to stardom. His performance earned him an Oscar nomination and solidified his status as one of the finest actors of his generation. He continued to receive Academy Award nods for ‘Serpico,’ ‘The Godfather Part II,’ and ‘Dog Day Afternoon,’ with his first win coming in 1993 for ‘Scent of a Woman.’

Pacino has also won two SAG-AFTRA Actor Awards, two Emmys, four Golden Globes, and the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement. SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin praised Pacino’s impact, calling him an artist of extraordinary courage and skill.

The SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award dates back to 1962, with previous honorees including Barbara Stanwyck, James Stewart, and Harrison Ford. Pacino’s recognition marks the culmination of a career spanning over six decades, celebrated for both his artistry and his commitment to social causes.
