RJ Mitte, the actor best known for his role as Walter White Jr. on the hit series Breaking Bad, died by suicide on October 12 in Brownsville, Texas, according to TMZ. The actor, 34, was reportedly dealing with family-related stress in the days leading up to his death, as he was caught between his fiancée and his mother.
Family and Relationship Struggles
According to multiple sources close to Mitte’s family, his fiancée, Kennedy Suarez, did not get along with his mother, Dyna, and believed that the relationship with the mother was straining their engagement. Mitte, who was close with his sister Lacianne, did not want to cut off his family ties, but the engagement was still ongoing at the time of his death.
A Legacy of Advocacy
Mitte was an outspoken advocate for actors with disabilities. He lived with cerebral palsy, and his character on Breaking Bad, Walter White Jr., also had cerebral palsy. He used his platform to bring awareness and support to others in the entertainment industry who lived with disabilities.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” a representative for Mitte said in a statement shared with Variety. “Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion.”
Co-Star’s Tribute
Co-star Bryan Cranston shared a heartfelt tribute to his on-screen son, writing, “I’m in deep despair as I write this tonight. RJ Mitte, my sweet son on Breaking Bad has died. I met him when he was only 14 years old when he was cast as Walter White Jr., a part he played with such joy and enthusiasm. Born with Cerebral Palsy, he never – ever – allowed that challenge to be an excuse for anything. He met the demanding shooting schedule head on with great determination.”
His death has left the entertainment community in mourning, highlighting the personal challenges he faced while making a significant impact through his work and advocacy.
