South Carolina Republican Representative Nancy Mace’s ex-fiancé, Patrick Bryant, and two of his business associates have been charged with sexual crimes in connection with an alleged 2018 sexual assault. The charges include voyeurism, first-degree assault, and criminal sexual conduct, according to court documents.

Alleged Incident and Charges

The alleged assault took place on October 26, 2018, on Sullivan’s Island, years before Bryant and Mace became engaged. According to an arrest affidavit, the victim became intoxicated and fell into a pool, later removing her wet clothes and passing out on a couch. The affidavit alleges that Bryant, John Douglas Osborne, and Eric Bernard Bowman gathered around the woman and discussed sexual acts before agreeing that Osborne would have sex with her despite her incapacitation. Osborne allegedly performed sex acts on her while Bryant and Bowman watched, and both Bryant and Bowman photographed and recorded the incident.

Legal Proceedings and Responses

All three men were charged and posted bond, releasing from the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center in Charleston County. A witness monitoring security footage reportedly wrote a detailed account of the incident. Osborne’s attorney claimed his client is innocent and intends to defend himself vigorously.

Nancy Mace’s Public Accusations

Mace publicly accused her ex-fiancé and his associates of sexual misconduct during a House floor speech in February 2025. She described the incident as part of a series of alleged crimes against women, including non-consensual photos and videos. Mace also alleged that Bryant physically assaulted her and filmed her naked without consent. Bryant denied the allegations, stating he would cooperate fully with legal processes to clear his name.

Support and Context

Mace delivered her speech after the House had finished voting, with her mother, three Republican representatives, and other supporters in attendance. The case highlights ongoing legal and ethical concerns surrounding sexual misconduct and the justice system’s response to such allegations.
