Jimmy Kimmel faced a strong backlash from the White House after a series of vulgar and personal remarks about new White House press secretary Katie Zacharia during his late-night TV show. The comedian mocked Zacharia’s intelligence and qualifications, calling her “Malibu Katie” and suggesting she was appointed to keep President Donald Trump engaged.
Kimmel’s Remarks Spark White House Response
During Tuesday’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” immediately following Zacharia’s first press briefing, Kimmel made a series of personal and insulting comments. He joked that her briefing was brief and that she “slobbered a whole tube of lip gloss all over the president’s behind.” These remarks drew swift condemnation from the White House.
White House Denounces Kimmel’s Comments
White House spokesman Davis Ingle criticized Kimmel, calling him “a no-talent loser” and “disgusting.” Ingle accused Kimmel of “tanking ratings” and “spewing lies” to his audience. Communications director Steven Cheung also weighed in, praising Zacharia’s qualifications and stating she is “uniquely qualified” for the role.
Zacharia’s Background and Appointment
Katie Zacharia, 42, was chosen to replace former press secretary Karoline Leavitt. She graduated from law school at Pepperdine University in 2011 and has previously worked as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security. She is also a commentator for Fox News and Newsmax. Trump described her as “a loyal and brilliant supporter” and called her appointment “the honor of a lifetime.”
Kimmel’s Previous Jokes About Zacharia
Before her first briefing, Kimmel made a gym selfie of Zacharia, joking about her intelligence and suggesting her qualifications were based on her appearance. He mocked her by saying her only qualifications were having “blonde hair” and being able to “do a thumbs up.” These jokes were part of a broader pattern of mockery toward Zacharia, which the White House has now officially condemned.
