Israeli settlers attacked a Washington Post journalist in the West Bank on Friday, kicking and beating her with clubs, according to video footage. Heidi Levine, a 64-year-old photographer for the newspaper, was caught in the middle of the attack as Israeli settlers targeted Palestinian villagers harvesting olives.

Video posted on X by independent journalist Jasper Nathaniel captures the incident, showing settlers repeatedly kicking Levine and striking her with clubs. They also stole her equipment, according to the outlet. Levine immediately after the attack said, “They took everything,” and when asked if she was okay, she responded, “No, I’m going to die.”

Washington Post executive editor Matt Murray condemned the attack in a statement, saying, “She was wearing visible markings clearly identifying her as a journalist. While we are relieved that Heidi has received medical care and is safe, we are outraged by this unwarranted attack on a journalist doing her job and urge a thorough investigation and follow-through from authorities.”

The incident has sparked outrage among media professionals and human rights advocates, with calls for an independent investigation into the attack. The Washington Post has not yet released further details on Levine’s current condition or the outcome of the investigation.

As the situation develops, international attention is focused on the safety of journalists in conflict zones and the accountability of those who target them. The attack highlights the dangers faced by media personnel in the West Bank, where tensions between Israeli settlers and Palestinian communities often escalate into violent confrontations.
