An illegal alien, linked to the fatal crash that killed two newlyweds, was released from jail in Oregon under the Biden administration’s policies, according to recent reports. The incident occurred in December of last year when the individual, identified as Rajinder Kumar, was driving a semi-truck that jackknifed on U.S. Highway 20 in Deschutes County. The crash blocked both lanes, leading to a collision with a Subaru Outback containing William Micah Carter and Jennifer Lynn Lower, who were both killed.

Sanctuary Policies and Legal Proceedings

Kumar, an illegal alien from India, was initially apprehended by Border Patrol in November 2022 after crossing the southern border illegally. He was released into the U.S. interior under the Biden administration’s catch and release policy. However, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) requested his detention through an immigration detainer, which was not honored due to Oregon’s sanctuary state policies. These policies prohibit local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE, even in cases involving violent crimes.

Despite his release, Kumar was eventually located and arrested by ICE agents. He was then transferred back to state custody to face charges of negligent homicide and reckless endangerment. ICE officials emphasized that the coordinated effort ensured Kumar would face justice, protecting the public and supporting the victims’ families.

Public Reaction and Accountability

Authorities have confirmed that Kumar’s actions resulted in the tragic loss of two lives, with their families seeking accountability. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the impact of sanctuary policies on public safety and the enforcement of immigration laws. As the legal proceedings continue, the case remains a focal point for discussions on immigration reform and law enforcement cooperation.
