Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has been charged with marijuana possession following a traffic stop in Carmel, Indiana. The charge was officially filed on October 19, according to FOX59/CBS4 reports.
Stop and Search Details
Officers conducted a traffic stop on October 12 on a black 2023 Dodge Charger traveling near Springmill Boulevard and Silver Stream Drive. The vehicle’s registration was noted to be assigned to a different car and had expired. The driver, Richardson, complied with the stop and pulled over to the side of the road.
During the stop, the officer detected the ‘odor of marijuana’ and questioned Richardson about it. The former Florida Gator admitted to smoking marijuana in the vehicle and also confessed to having a small amount still inside. Officers then placed Richardson in handcuffs while searching the car, which yielded a small mason jar containing a substance believed to be marijuana and an opened bag of THC-infused gummies.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
Richardson received a citation for the expired registration and agreed to appear in court on the date listed in his summons. The substances found in his vehicle tested positive for THC. He is scheduled for a bench trial on January 4, 2027.
Richardson explained that he chose to smoke in his car to avoid exposing his children to the smell. The case highlights the legal and personal implications of drug possession for a public figure, while also underscoring the routine nature of such charges in everyday law enforcement interactions.
