A middle school teacher in New Jersey has been arrested and fired after allegedly being involved in a prostitution incident at a casino hotel in Atlantic City. Amanda Crafts, 35, a computer teacher at Middle Township Middle School, was accused of acting as a ‘muscle’ for a prostitute during a bizarre encounter with a male customer.
Police Allegations and Legal Response
According to a criminal complaint obtained by the New York Post, Crafts and Veda Engel, 23, allegedly tricked an unsuspecting sex customer on October 9. The incident reportedly took place at the hotel bar of Caesar’s Atlantic City, where the victim met both women. They exchanged phone numbers, and Engel later invited the man to a hotel room at Harrah’s Resort.
Engel allegedly ended the encounter abruptly, claiming the man had paid $1,250 for an hour of service. Crafts is accused of pinning down the man while Engel used his iPhone’s facial recognition feature to access his ApplePay account and transfer the money. However, Crafts’ attorney, Charles Peruto Jr., claims the story is entirely false. He stated that Crafts had no part in the alleged theft and was unaware that Engel was engaged in prostitution.
Background and Legal History
Engel has a criminal record, having been charged with prostitution in December 2025 after offering sex in exchange for $1,000 to an undercover police detective. Crafts and Engel were held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility for six days before being released on October 15. The school district announced that Crafts was no longer employed by the district on October 19.
Crafts, a single mother of four, has been a computer teacher at Middle Township Middle School since 2016. Her LinkedIn profile reveals her professional background, though the incident has led to her dismissal. The case highlights the complexities of personal relationships and legal accountability in professional settings.
