Famed Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz has warned that an alleged Democratic scheme to confuse voters in Alaska’s Senate race could amount to a federal felony, according to a recent appearance on Newsmax. During the interview with host Greta Van Susteren, Dershowitz argued that the suspected conspiracy to split Senator Dan Sullivan’s vote goes beyond a mere political trick and crosses into criminal territory.
When asked whether the alleged operation was simply a ‘dirty’ political tactic or a violation of the law, Dershowitz responded, ‘I think it crosses the line to crime.’ He cited a court decision from the Second Circuit that supports his claim, stating that such a conspiracy could rise to the level of a felony, potentially carrying a five-year prison sentence.
Dershowitz emphasized that the alleged scheme, which involves Democratic operatives working together to mislead voters, is already complete. He stressed that the actions could constitute a civil rights violation and a fraud against voters. ‘There is a second circuit opinion that basically says if you get a conspiracy… to defraud voters and mislead them into voting for the wrong person – that could rise to the level of a felony,’ he said.
The Justice Department has been investigating the allegations, which include the recruitment of a candidate with the same name as Senator Dan Sullivan to split his vote. Dershowitz expressed confidence that the investigation would uncover the full extent of the alleged conspiracy and that those involved should be held accountable.
