Disney is reportedly preparing for a major restructuring, including thousands of layoffs, as part of a broader effort to cut 20% from its annual costs. The move, confirmed by sources to Bloomberg, marks the fourth round of job cuts in 2026 under CEO Josh D’Amaro. The layoffs are expected to impact various operations, including theme parks, TV channels, and the movie studio, with some divisions affected more significantly than others.

Strategic Cost-Cutting Measures

According to the report, Disney plans to reinvest a portion of the savings into film and TV programming, technology, and its theme parks and cruise ship businesses. The company has already made several rounds of job cuts in 2026, with the most recent layoffs affecting hundreds of employees in human resources and IT departments across corporate and divisional operations.

The restructuring also includes major changes to its TV operations, with hundreds of jobs eliminated and divisions consolidated. In July, Disney made job cuts across corporate functions, including at Pixar, ESPN, Disney Entertainment Television, and Disney’s studios. In April, the company eliminated about 1,000 roles as part of the formation of a consolidated enterprise marketing division under Asad Ayaz, chief marketing and brand officer.

Streaming Service Price Increases

In addition to the layoffs, Disney has raised prices for its streaming services, Disney+ and Hulu. The standalone ad-free plans for both services are increasing by $2.50, or 13%, bringing the total cost to $21.49 a month for each. The ad-supported plans will rise by 50 cents to $12.49 a month, while the ad-free bundled plan will increase by $2 to $21.99.

These moves come as part of a larger strategy to enhance profitability while adapting to evolving market demands and competition. Disney did not publicly comment on the report, but the company’s recent actions suggest a clear focus on cost control and strategic investment in key areas of its business.
