Adopted Man Finds Biological Father is Doobie Brothers Star

An adopted Missouri man has uncovered that his biological father is the legendary Doobie Brothers singer, Michael McDonald. Michael Goessling, who was put up for adoption as an infant after his biological parents were too young to marry when they conceived him at just 14 years old, has finally met his birth father after years of searching.

A Lifelong Connection

McDonald, who has remained close friends with Goessling’s birth mother, shared his emotions about the revelation. “We always talked about him. And it always came down to our greatest fear was, how did life treat him?” McDonald expressed, adding, “I always carried that guilt with me, but just to know that he was okay, and that he had a good life, and a life certainly that I probably wouldn’t have been able to afford him at that time in my life.” McDonald praised Goessling’s adoptive parents, calling them “the real rock stars in this story.”

Emotional Reunion

When Goessling and McDonald finally met in person, the moment was emotional. “He put his arms out and just gave me a big ol’ bear hug and told me he loved me. And I told him the same,” Goessling shared. McDonald described the experience as “a wonderful, wonderful experience to see Michael and for me to get to meet my son, after all these years thinking about him.”

Grandfatherhood and Family

Goessling is a father of two, which means McDonald has also become a grandfather. “That’s still sinking into me,” McDonald said. “What a gift.” McDonald has two adult children, Dylan and Scarlett, with his wife Amy Holland, whom he married in 1983. He praised Goessling’s wife and children, calling them “the kids you’d ever meet” and expressing pride in their upbringing.
