The Chicago Bears have made a bold move in their pursuit of a Super Bowl run, acquiring elite defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons in a blockbuster trade with the Tennessee Titans. The deal, finalized on Thursday, marks a significant step for the 5-2 Bears as they bolster their defense ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
General Manager Ryan Poles traded two first-round picks (2027 and 2028) and a 2027 fourth-round pick to the Titans in exchange for Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round pick. This acquisition is seen as a critical step in addressing the Bears’ defensive interior, which has been a glaring weakness this season.

With Simmons joining the Bears, defensive coordinator Dennis Allen now has a bona fide game-wrecker at his disposal. The four-time Pro Bowler is arguably the best defensive tackle in football, and his presence will help stave off regression and elevate the team’s defensive attack.
Simmons, who signed a three-year, $105.8 million extension in June, has been a dominant force in the NFL. He posted a career-best 11 sacks in 2023 and has accumulated 46.5 sacks in eight seasons. This season, he has generated 38 tackles and 28 pressures, ranking first among defensive tackles in both categories.

Despite his substantial contract, the Bears’ financial commitment to Simmons is relatively team-friendly. The team will only owe him $7.94 million for the rest of the season and $26.95 million in 2027, with the remainder of his contract remaining with Tennessee.
Titans GM Mike Borgonzi and Bears GM Ryan Poles worked together in Kansas City from 2009-21, and actually were together at Boston College in 2007 when Poles was a player and Borgonzi was a young assistant.
The trade also signals a full commitment to rebuilding for the Titans, who are sacrificing their defensive cornerstone for a massive infusion of draft capital. While the move is seen as a strategic decision, it comes with risks, particularly as the Titans’ defense continues to struggle.

Titans GM Mike Borgonzi now faces the challenge of turning those premium picks into actual difference-makers. Meanwhile, the Bears are loading up to win now, while the Titans are betting on better days tomorrow.
Getting two 1st round picks in return for Simmons is a MAJOR coup for the #Titans . The current problem is that the guy in charge of making those first round picks hasn’t been particularly good at the whole drafting players thing.
