Iconic R&B group Boyz II Men are set to make a bold move into country music, signing a deal with Warner Records Nashville to release a full-length album in 2027. The announcement marks a significant shift for the group, who rose to fame in the 1990s with their groundbreaking R&B sound.
A New Chapter in Music
Warner Records Nashville chair and president Cris Lacy expressed excitement about the collaboration, highlighting the group’s global influence and their impact on the current country music scene. “Boyz II Men’s global influence is decades in the making,” Lacy said. “Every genre and culture has benefited from their original music, and their impact on artists in the current country landscape, while perhaps surprising to some, is quite profound.” Lacy noted that the group’s interest in country music was sparked by their admiration for artists like Randy Travis, which led to their collaboration with Nashville’s award-winning songwriters.
Historical Collaborations
Although Boyz II Men won’t officially venture into country music until 2027, their passion for the genre dates back several years. The group joined Brett Young for an episode of “CMT Crossroads” in 2019 and performed a rendition of “Be Still Moses” with bluegrass group Steep Canyon Rangers. They also collaborated with country trio Lady A on the single “I Love The One.” These performances showcased their versatility and willingness to explore new musical territories.
A Legacy of Success
Boyz II Men topped the charts in the 1990s with hits such as “End of the Road,” “Mama,” “One Sweet Day,” and “On Bended Knee.” They have earned numerous accolades, including four Grammy Awards, nine American Music Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, nine Soul Train Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Their career has extended beyond music, with projects in film, TV, sports, and fashion.
More Than Just a Vocal Group
“These guys are more than a vocal group — they are entertainers,” said their manager, Joe Mulvihill. “From appearing in a film with Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron, to participating in golf events alongside Mark Wahlberg, Derek Jeter and Hootie & the Blowfish, to collaborating with Jordan Brand on the landmark 30th-anniversary Air Jordan 11, they have consistently shown their range and their ability to reshape the traditional artist model,” he added.
