Los Angeles — A lightsaber wielded by Darth Vader in the iconic ‘I am your father’ duel from the 1980 film ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ is set to go up for auction, with an expected minimum sale price of $1 million. The prop, which also appears in ‘Return of the Jedi,’ is among the highlights of the Ultimate Star Wars Auction being held by Heritage Auctions on November 12.
The auction will feature over two dozen lightsaber props from across all nine ‘Star Wars’ films, as well as other memorabilia from the galaxy far, far away. Among the other notable items are dueling lightsabers from ‘Revenge of the Sith,’ estimated to sell for at least $10,000 each, and a Yoda puppet hand used in the original ‘Empire Strikes Back’ film.
Also included in the auction are a Boba Fett blaster, a C-3PO screenplay, and a TIE Fighter pilot helmet from ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.’ The Vader lightsaber, which was used in the climactic duel in Cloud City, is one of the most highly anticipated items in the sale, drawing interest from collectors and fans worldwide.
The sale of the lightsaber comes just a year after a similar prop, Luke Skywalker’s severed hand, sold for $3.75 million, setting a new record for a ‘Star Wars’ prop at auction. The auction house has not disclosed the final price for the Vader lightsaber, but the minimum estimate reflects the growing value of Star Wars memorabilia in the collector’s market.
With the ‘Star Wars’ franchise continuing to dominate popular culture, the auction highlights the enduring appeal of the franchise and the significant value placed on its iconic props. The event will bring together fans, collectors, and enthusiasts to celebrate the legacy of the galaxy far, far away.
