Michael Douglas Details HIV Threat at 1992 Oscars in Memoir

Actor Michael Douglas has revealed a terrifying incident during the 1992 Academy Awards in his upcoming memoir, ‘One Helluva Ride.’ The 82-year-old star detailed how a deranged follower attempted to infect him with HIV during the ceremony, a plot that required the presence of undercover agents and heightened security.

AIDS Crisis and a Death Sentence

Douglas, who won an Oscar for his role in ‘Wall Street’ in 1988, recalled being informed by an LAPD sergeant that a credible threat was present. The sergeant warned that someone might try to stab him with an HIV-infected needle, which would have been a death sentence during the height of the AIDS crisis.

‘This was during the height of the AIDS crisis, and getting stabbed with an infected needle would essentially be a death sentence,’ Douglas wrote in the memoir. He described walking out of the venue and glancing at the crowd, only seeing blinding lights as he presented onstage with Jodie Foster.

Threats and Protection

Douglas’s longtime friend confirmed the story’s authenticity, stating that the actor was advised not to go on stage due to the danger. Despite the threat, Douglas bravely proceeded, showcasing his fear and courage.

Additionally, Douglas revealed that he was placed on a ‘kill list’ by the extremist group Death Angels while filming ‘The Streets of San Francisco.’ The group was linked to the racially motivated ‘Zebra Murders,’ which claimed multiple lives in the early 1970s.

‘I had to wear a bulletproof vest and be protected by undercover officers,’ Douglas explained, highlighting the extreme measures taken for his safety.
