Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear (D) criticized the Republican-led Congress during an appearance on MS NOW’s ‘State of Play,’ accusing it of undermining the foundational principles of the United States. Beshear claimed that the current political climate is so corrupt that ‘all of our founders’ would roll over in their graves.

Beshear expressed frustration with what he described as a system of political favoritism, where financial incentives are tied to electoral outcomes. ‘This president continues to be the briber-in-chief,’ he said, pointing to examples such as a $5,000 payment for all, but only if the president wins, and a $100 million investment from the Department of War, but only if the election result is favorable.

Beshear called for a new Congress that would fulfill its constitutional duties and restore trust in American governance. ‘The first thing we’ve got to do is get a new Congress that will actually do its job,’ he said. He also suggested that a constitutional amendment is necessary to address systemic issues within the government.

When asked how to restore trust in American government, Beshear emphasized the need for a Democratic majority in Congress to push back against the current administration’s policies. ‘By electing a Democratic majority, we will be able to push back,’ he said, adding that the current administration’s actions have been ‘so much terrible stuff’ that reform is urgent.

Beshear’s comments reflect a growing concern over the integrity of the political process and the role of Congress as a check on executive power. His call for a constitutional amendment highlights the depth of his dissatisfaction with the current political structure and the need for significant reform.
