Republican strategist Caroline Wren has raised concerns about Texas Democrat Senate nominee James Talarico’s extended absence from the campaign trail, questioning his ability to handle the demands of the U.S. Senate. Wren expressed her doubts during an interview with Breitbart News, emphasizing the importance of transparency during a critical election period.

Scrutiny Over Absence

Wren challenged Talarico’s explanation for his time away from public campaigning, noting the lack of detailed information from both the candidate and reporters. She pointed out that Talarico’s last in-person campaign appearance was on September 30, after which he returned to public events only on Friday, September 29, at the Austin City Limits music festival.

Wren highlighted the significant gap between his last in-person event and his recent public appearance, arguing that such an absence during a Senate race warrants closer examination. She stated, “If you can’t handle the campaign trail, you sure as hell can’t handle the U.S. Senate. And that is the important point here.”

Discrepancies in Scheduling

Wren questioned the timeline of Talarico’s activities, particularly how he could attend a fundraiser in New York on September 29 at 5:30 p.m. while also visiting an urgent care facility in Dallas that same evening. She noted the inconsistency and expressed confusion over the logistics of such a schedule.

Talarico’s campaign spokesperson, JT Ennis, explained that the candidate became ill after attending over 100 public events and shaking hands with tens of thousands of people. He also shared a statement on social media, joking about “conspiracy theorists” and confirming that Talarico was still meeting with voters at the ACL festival.

Call for Transparency

Despite Talarico’s return to public appearances, Wren remains unconvinced and insists that voters deserve clarity on any health issues affecting the candidate. She emphasized that whether the issue is medical or mental health-related, transparency is essential for voters to make informed decisions.

“If you’re hiding a health issue, whether or not it’s a medical issue or a mental health issue, then it’s something that the voters of Texas deserve to know about before they make the decision on sending a U.S. senator to represent the state of Texas in Washington, D.C.,” she said.
