Actresses Among Detained
Hollywood actresses Hannah Einbinder and Susan Sarandon were among those arrested. Einbinder, the Emmy-winning co-star of HBO’s ‘Hacks,’ was led away in handcuffs on camera and shouted ‘Free Palestine! Get Netanyahu out of New York!’ during her detention. Sarandon, 79, was also filmed being cuffed by NYPD officers. She has previously spoken about how her advocacy for Palestinians has impacted her career in the film industry.
Other notable individuals detained included comedian Caleb Hearon, City Council Member Chi Ossé, congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier, Sex and the City actress Cynthia Nixon, and WikiLeaks whistleblower Chelsea Manning. Elliot Page, a transgender actress, was seen in the crowd holding a banner but was not among those taken into custody.
An NYPD spokesperson stated that Community Affairs officers warned the crowd to leave, but protesters continued to block the intersection. Multiple individuals who did not comply were taken into custody, with reports estimating that roughly 100 people were detained. The spokesperson did not provide a final headcount, but the incident has sparked discussions about the nature of the protest and the enforcement of public order.
