In a heated debate during Georgia’s Senate race, Republican Senate nominee Mike Collins accused Democrat Sen. Jon Ossoff of never being held accountable for his voting record, particularly his support for policies like the Green New Deal and open borders, which Collins blamed for fueling inflation and the opioid crisis.

Collins Blames Ossoff for Border and Economic Policies

Collins opened the debate by linking Ossoff’s past votes to current economic challenges, stating, “That Bidenomics, that Green New Deal my opponent voted for? That’s where all this inflation is coming from.” He also criticized Ossoff for voting to keep borders open despite a surge in fentanyl, which has led to a public health crisis.

Collins further accused Ossoff of prioritizing political goals over the needs of Georgia farmers, citing his vote to shut down the government in 2025 to defund Border Patrol and ICE, which delayed hurricane relief efforts. “Right when we were trying to get emergency money out to our farmers… he shut it down so he could defund Border Patrol and ICE,” Collins said.

Ossoff Focuses on Collins’ Support for Trump

Osssoff, however, redirected the conversation, accusing Collins of supporting former President Trump and blaming him for crushing Georgia’s farmers and economy through tariffs. Throughout the debate, Ossoff repeatedly demanded Collins answer questions, which moderators had to remind him were not part of the agreed-upon rules.

Healthcare and Rural Funding Dispute

On healthcare, Collins criticized Ossoff for not supporting rural hospitals, despite Georgia receiving $218 million from the Working Families Tax Cuts, which Ossoff voted against. Ossoff later called for Medicaid expansion and endorsed former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ gubernatorial campaign to address the state’s healthcare emergency.

Collins Touts Trump’s Healthcare Reforms

Collins, who previously ran a trucking company, argued that the first year of the Affordable Care Act led to a 62% increase in insurance costs. He advocated for greater price transparency and praised prescription drug cost savings under Trump’s second term.
