On the night before the 2026 midterm elections, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sharply criticized the Trump administration and the Republican-controlled Congress, calling the political establishment ‘the swamp is the worst it’s ever been.’ During an interview with sports broadcaster Stephen A. Smith in Washington, D.C., DeSantis accused Republicans of ignoring high gas prices and ‘gaslighting’ voters over the Iran War.
Targeting Trump Allies and Corruption
DeSantis also criticized former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, calling her appointment a ‘mistake,’ and took aim at MAGA lawyer Alina Habba, who had a multi-million-dollar deal with a Venezuelan billionaire weeks before being pardoned by President Donald Trump.
Governor DeSantis BLASTS Kristi Noem for bungling mass deportations and turning it into a shit show for her own glory. DeSantis BLASTS Congressmen like Byron Donalds for making millions on the stock market. DeSantis BLASTS Alina Habba for getting a $10 million government contract and securing a presidential pardon for her boyfriend. “If the people in office don’t display some civic virtue about public service as a sacrifice. It’s not to use the public office for private gain. I declined the pension in Congress. I declined the health care. I didn’t trade the stocks. And I believe in congressional term limits. I mean, imagine if you went to the American people and actually tried to get that done. That’s not right or left. That’s something that a lot of people realize.. These guys work for themselves. They should be working for you.”
‘The amount of money these people are making who are in the administration,’ DeSantis lamented. ‘Trump was criticizing Alina Habba. She’s working for DOJ, and she gets a $10-million-a-year contract and then the guy that gave it to her got a presidential pardon somehow.’
Calling for Reform
DeSantis urged Republicans to tackle political corruption by banning Congress from trading stocks and implementing term limits. ‘If the people in office don’t display some civic virtue about public service as a sacrifice. It’s not to use the public office for private gain. We see so much of that in D.C. right now,’ he said.
He argued that if Democrats retake the House and Senate, they will focus on corruption investigations rather than issues like immigration. ‘We have got to be a party that recognizes we don’t want this stuff happening in D.C. We have a higher calling to behave well,’ DeSantis went on.
‘I declined the pension in Congress. I declined the health care. I didn’t trade the stocks. And I believe in congressional term limits,’ he said. ‘Imagine if you went to the American people and actually tried to get that done. That’s not right or left. That’s something that a lot of people realize. These guys work for themselves. They should be working for you.’
