Florida Democratic Senate Candidate Angie Nixon has stated that Republicans are actively volunteering and donating to her campaign, despite the ongoing political tensions in the state. During an appearance on MS NOW’s “All In” on Friday, Nixon addressed the political climate and the challenges she faces in the race.

Political Climate and Opposition

Host Chris Hayes highlighted the presence of Donald Trump in Florida, noting his recent attacks on Nixon, including calling her a ‘low IQ person’ and a ‘communist.’ Hayes remarked that Trump’s comments were part of a broader pattern, emphasizing that Nixon is on the Republican radar. Nixon responded by affirming that the race is indeed on Republicans’ radar, attributing this to the unexpected success of her campaign.

‘They couldn’t believe that someone who didn’t have nearly as much money as they had is actually making headways this way,’ Nixon said. ‘That just goes to show you that organized people can beat big money.’ Nixon emphasized the importance of focusing on issues that resonate with voters, such as ending the culture of corruption.

Corruption and Policy Focus

Nixon pointed out that Ashley Moody, the current Florida attorney general, is being influenced by the insurance industry, which has led to a failure in addressing the needs of residents during hurricane season. ‘She turned her back on voters and residents across the state during hurricane season and they didn’t get their claims paid out,’ Nixon said.

‘So when I’m making the case that if they want something different, they want us to end the corruption that’s happening in DC, that they should vote for me,’ Nixon added. ‘That’s been resonating.’ She expressed gratitude for the support she is receiving from Republicans and moderates, noting that it is a testament to the effectiveness of her message.

Implications for the Race

The support from Republicans and moderates is seen as a significant factor in the race, indicating that there is a growing divide among voters. Nixon’s campaign is positioned as a challenge to the status quo, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in government. As the election approaches, her ability to mobilize support from diverse groups will be crucial in determining the outcome of the race.
