President Donald Trump defended the ban, claiming that the outlets were spreading “fake news” and that their coverage was negative, wrong, and dangerous for the country. He first announced the ban on September 18, stating that these outlets should not be allowed to report “FICTION and LIES.”
The ban led to a media-wide boycott, with major networks like Fox News, ABC, CBS, and NBC abandoning their posts in the press pool. Conservative media outlets such as Real America’s Voice and LindellTV stepped in to fill the void.
Access Issues Under Previous Administrations
Conservative outlets faced access issues under former President Joe Biden. In one instance, the Daily Caller, New York Post, and Fox News Radio were removed from a media engagement. The Biden administration also introduced rules dictating which journalists could attend briefings and presidential events.
