Former Democrat turned Independent Joe Manchin is endorsing Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan’s U.S. Senate race, urging voters to support the candidate running against radical leftist Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed. During a recent interview with Fox News, Manchin praised Rogers, stating, “I’ve served with Mike Rogers. He is very, very intelligent. He does his homework and he knows what’s going on around the world to keep us safe. So, Mike’s a good friend and I encourage people to support Mike Rogers.”
Manchin’s Shift from Democrat to Independent
Manchin’s decision to distance himself from the Democratic Party came after he criticized the party’s brand as “so bad” in 2023 and later described it as “toxic,” noting that Washington Democrats had “mainstreamed the extreme.” His shift has led to a growing support base among independent voters, including longtime Democrats.
Rogers’ Campaign Focus on El-Sayed’s Alleged Ties
Republican candidate Mike Rogers, the former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, has highlighted concerns about El-Sayed’s alleged connections to the Muslim Brotherhood. Rogers pointed to El-Sayed’s leadership role in the Muslim Student Association at the University of Michigan, which he described as having alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. “The Muslim Brotherhood, on his August primary win, celebrated exactly one race in the entire United States, and that’s Abdul El-Sayed,” Rogers stated. “So they came out on their website and praised it and celebrated the fact that he won the primary.”
Support from Prominent Figures
Rogers’ campaign has also received support from Rep. Haley Stevens’ fiancé, Jason Turkish, a Jewish attorney and Democrat donor, who announced his decision to vote for Rogers less than a week before the November 3 election. Turkish accused El-Sayed of using rhetoric that puts Jewish people at risk. “El-Sayed defeated Stevens in the August Democrat primary and later received her support,” according to Breitbart News.
Broader Implications for the Election
The race highlights the growing divide in Michigan’s political landscape, with Rogers capitalizing on concerns over radical left-wing policies and alleged foreign ties. As the election approaches, the race is expected to draw significant attention from both parties and media outlets, reflecting the broader national debate over political alignment and security concerns.
