A Michigan firefighters union has quietly removed its endorsement of far-left Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in the U.S. Senate race, citing a clerical error. The Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union (MPFFU) initially included El-Sayed in its list of endorsed candidates, which was sent to members on September 11 or 12. However, the union later revised its slate of endorsements, replacing El-Sayed with an endorsement for Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist for Secretary of State.

MPFFU President Matt Sahr told The Midwesterner that the initial endorsement was distributed before it was officially approved and dismissed it as a clerical error. Despite this, the move has drawn criticism from some union members who believe the leadership is attempting to cover up their support for El-Sayed.

“This was not a clerical error. What we are seeing now is MPFFU leadership trying to sweep this under the rug. If rank-and-file members had not voiced our concerns, I have no doubt this organization would still be supporting Abdul El-Sayed over Mike Rogers,” a firefighter from southern Michigan told The Midwesterner.

The removal of the endorsement comes at a time when El-Sayed faces increased scrutiny, particularly regarding his political views and past statements. The incident highlights the growing divide within unions between leadership and rank-and-file members, with the latter often voting Republican despite union support for Democratic candidates.
