This decision comes after a federal judge ruled that Trump’s ban on CNN, MS Now, and Politico from the White House was likely unconstitutional, prompting the White House to reinstate their access.
Press Access Dispute Escalates
Earlier this week, ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, and NBC suspended their pooled coverage of the White House in protest of Trump’s decision to ban CNN, MS Now, and Politico from the press pool. This move allowed conservative outlets like Lindell TV and Real America’s Voice to step in and broadcast White House events to a global audience.
Despite the reinstatement of access for CNN, MS Now, and Politico, confusion persisted at the White House as reporters were initially barred from entering. However, they were eventually allowed onto the grounds, with CNN celebrating the development on air after confirming that correspondent Betsy Klein had been granted access.
MS Now Warns of Continued Boycott
MS Now’s White House correspondent, Laura Barron-Lopez, emphasized the importance of press access during a live report, stating that without the major networks participating, the public would miss out on significant coverage of the President’s interactions with the press.
She also highlighted the shift in Trump’s approach to press restrictions, noting that while he has long criticized the media, his current actions represent a direct use of government power to limit access, which is a new development in his second term.
Press Corps Faces Uncertainty
Despite the reinstatement of access, the press corps remains divided. Barron-Lopez indicated that the five major networks—Fox, ABC, CBS, CNN, and NBC—may continue their solidarity in boycotting Trump if CNN is not granted full access, signaling a potential long-term impact on media coverage of the administration.
