Amid escalating tensions in the Ohio gubernatorial race, Amy Acton’s mother, Donna Arthur, has entered the fray with a new attack ad, accusing her daughter of lying about her past. The ad, circulating on social media, has sparked renewed debate over the accuracy of Acton’s claims and the validity of her political campaign.

Acton’s Mother Calls Daughter a ‘Liar’

Donna Arthur, who is estranged from Acton, appears in the ad, directly criticizing her daughter for allegedly fabricating stories about her childhood. Arthur claims Acton exaggerated or invented accounts of abuse from her stepfather and falsely portrayed her early life as one of hardship, including living in a tent during a winter.

Arthur states, ‘She is a liar. She lies about her past. She says she grew up living in a tent. None of that is true. She’s lied her entire life.’ The ad urges voters not to support Acton, warning that her dishonesty could lead to a worsening of life for Ohioans.

Back-and-Forth Over Campaign Claims

The ad comes after Acton accused Republican Vivek Ramaswamy of using artificial intelligence to create false narratives about her family. She claimed that Ramaswamy’s AI-generated images, including an altered photo of her car with a fake license plate, were part of a hoax. However, local media fact-checked these claims, highlighting inconsistencies in Acton’s allegations.

Cleveland.com pointed out two specific inaccuracies in Acton’s recent ad. First, the Ohio Republican Party used AI to change the license plate of Acton’s car to ‘Drunk Mom,’ referencing a 2019 incident where Acton and her husband had an argument, and her daughter called 911, falsely reporting her mother was drinking. No charges were filed. Second, Acton cited an opinion piece by Brent Larkin, not a fact-check, to support her claims against Ramaswamy, which has drawn scrutiny.

Controversial Past and Campaign Tactics

Acton’s campaign has faced its share of controversies, including accusations of intoxication during public events and a viral hoax attempting to fabricate an ‘armed attack’ at a campaign event. The narrative collapsed after a prosecutor revealed video showing the individual was merely recording and calling out Acton’s name, with no weapons involved.

These incidents have raised questions about the credibility of Acton’s campaign and the accuracy of her personal history. As the race intensifies, the role of family members and the use of AI in political messaging continue to shape the discourse around the election.
