Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton took the stage in Corpus Christi, Texas, ahead of President Donald Trump’s speech, delivering a sharp critique of his Democratic Senate opponent, state Representative James Talarico. Paxton, the Republican Senate nominee, accused Talarico of promoting ‘leftwing policies’ and labeled him the ‘most radical Democrat to ever run in Texas history.’

Paxton criticized Talarico’s support for policies such as transitioning children to the opposite gender, men participating in women’s sports, and his past statement that ‘God is nonbinary.’ He also pointed to Talarico’s legislative record, including voting in favor of a state income tax in Texas, which currently does not have one, opposing security border bills, and attempting to pass a bill eliminating the oil and gas industry in the Lone Star State.

He framed the election as ‘lifesaving for the country and for Texas,’ emphasizing the deep divide between himself and Talarico. ‘If you vote for a guy like James Talarico versus me, we end up 3,000 miles apart,’ he stated. With the midterms looming just one week away, Paxton urged Texans to ‘pray for me, pray for the president, pray for our leaders, pray for Texas’ and called on supporters to encourage Republican friends and family to vote.

From the rally site, a massive container ship was visible, which Trump highlighted upon taking the stage. In his speech, the president announced the arrival of one million barrels of oil on board from Venezuela. The barrels, provided at no cost to American taxpayers, are part of the largest oil deal in history.

Trump stumped for several candidates during his remarks, including Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas), who is up for reelection, and Paxton, whom the president praised as the greatest attorney general in Texas history.

The rally underscored the political showdown in Texas as the midterms approach, with both candidates vying for the Senate seat and shaping the state’s political future.
