Left-wing podcaster Jennifer Welch and co-host Angie Sullivan have issued an apology after a joke about the assassination of Charlie Kirk sparked outrage. The pair, known for their podcast “Drinking MAGA Tears,” laughed at a joke involving the desecration of Kirk’s corpse during a September 2025 episode.
Welch and Sullivan read a social media post about digging up Kirk and killing him again, then laughed for around 30 seconds before Welch said, “No comment.” The incident, which was captured on video and shared widely, led to backlash and several advertisers cutting ties with the podcast.

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated in September 2025 while speaking at Utah Valley University. The footage of the joke went viral, prompting multiple companies to distance themselves from the podcast. Welch and Sullivan later issued an apology, acknowledging the insensitivity of their actions.
“On Thursday’s show, we laughed at a joke about Charlie Kirk,” they stated. “It was an insensitive joke, and we should not have laughed. We regret it, and we apologize.”

Normally, I’d give them grace, but they have consistently said some of the hateful, outrageous things imaginable over the last year without remorse. As part of their apology, Welch and Sullivan donated to Everytown for Gun Safety, an anti-gun advocacy group. They also emphasized their support for common-sense gun safety reform, despite their political differences.
Cash App, Chewy, Boll & Branch, and Lola Blankets confirmed they were no longer working with the podcast. Welch has a history of criticizing Kirk and his widow, Erika Kirk, even before this controversy. During a September interview with Piers Morgan, she refused to apologize for calling Erika a “grifter.”
Welch also previously suggested that Kirk “justified his death,” further fueling the controversy. The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between political figures and the media, as well as the impact of social media on public discourse.
