Pro-life advocates gathered in Washington, D.C., to pray for the U.S. judicial system as the Supreme Court began its new term. The event, organized by the Judicial Action Group (JAG), marked the third annual National Consecration of Our Court, a gathering focused on prayer for the entire judicial branch of government, from the Supreme Court to state courts.

Prayer for Judicial Integrity

The gathering emphasized the importance of the courts in protecting unborn children, highlighting the need for informed participation in judicial processes. Retired Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Tom Parker led prayers for state courts, while Mike Berry from First Liberty Institute prayed for federal district and appellate courts.

Different faith leaders were assigned to pray for each justice, with Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, leading prayers for Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Pavone thanked President Trump for reshaping the Court and the U.S. Senate for eliminating the filibuster for Supreme Court nominations, which was crucial in reversing Roe v. Wade.

Kavanaugh’s Role in Judicial Reform

Pavone acknowledged Justice Kavanaugh’s role in the reversal of Roe, noting his concurrence that emphasized the humility of the Court in making such a significant decision. He also highlighted Kavanaugh’s past support for Priests for Life in a challenge to the federal HHS mandate, where Kavanaugh dissented against the denial of an en banc hearing.

Attendees also remembered the challenges Kavanaugh faced during his confirmation process, including attempts at violence, and prayed for the protection of all justices. The event underscored the importance of staying informed about judicial nominees and the confirmation process.

Empowering Citizens in Judicial Processes

JAG, the event sponsor, works to research and vet judicial candidates, helping citizens understand the judicial philosophies of nominees and elected judges. The organization encourages communication with senators during confirmation processes and informed participation in state judicial elections.

Pavone urged continued prayer for the courts and emphasized the role of the pro-life movement in advocating for judicial integrity. The gathering serves as a reminder of the critical role the judiciary plays in protecting life and the importance of civic engagement in shaping judicial outcomes.
