Rep. Luna Calls for Dual Citizenship Disclosure in Congress

On Monday, during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “The Will Cain Show,” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) called for members of Congress to be required to disclose whether they hold dual citizenship. Luna made the remarks in response to an earlier raid on Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) residence, which she linked to concerns about divided loyalties and potential national security risks.

Concerns Over Dual Citizenship and National Security

Luna argued that members of Congress should be held to a higher standard, particularly when it comes to transparency about their citizenship status. She pointed to Rep. Ilhan Omar as an example, suggesting that the raid on her home raised questions about the potential for divided loyalties. Luna also referenced Rep. El-Sayed, who she claimed is a citizen of Egypt, as a case in point.

“If these allegations are true, then it needs to be dealt with legally,” Luna said. “But, ultimately, this is exactly why myself, members like Kat Cammack, even Randy Fine have pushed for there to be a disclosure, at least for people to know whether or not members of Congress are dual citizens.”

Will Cain, the host of the show, echoed Luna’s concerns, emphasizing that dual citizenship could suggest divided loyalties, especially during times of national crisis. Luna agreed, stating that loyalty should only lie with the United States. She also raised concerns about espionage, particularly with regard to China, and suggested that only American citizens should be allowed to hold elected office.

“You can’t be expected to have — God forbid there’s a wartime situation. Where does your loyalty lie? It should only lie to the United States,” Luna said. “And what I would say is, with El-Sayed specifically, I think he’s out on stage. I actually saw the clip. I reposted it on my social media saying that he had Egyptian citizenship.”

Luna’s comments highlight a growing debate over transparency in government, with many calling for stricter disclosure requirements for elected officials.
