Rick Ross, the renowned rapper and businessman, was arrested on felony battery by strangulation charges after turning himself in to Miami-Dade Police on Thursday. Ross is also facing a misdemeanor battery charge, according to law enforcement sources.
Ross’ ex-girlfriend told police that he allegedly turned violent during an incident on August 28. She claimed that he woke her in a jealous rage over a social media post and proceeded to slap her in the face, strike her in the chest repeatedly, and choke her to the point where she could not breathe.
According to TMZ, the ex-girlfriend also reported that Ross accused her of being involved in a relationship with someone else and struck her each time she denied it. She described how he grabbed her by the ponytail and slammed her against a wall. Sources close to the situation said she provided images of her alleged injuries to police.
Ross voluntarily surrendered to police and pleaded not guilty to both charges. He remains in police custody on $5,000 bond for the felony battery by strangulation charge and a $1,000 bond for the misdemeanor battery charge. His legal team is working to have him released.
Legal Response and Upcoming Arraignment
Ross’ lawyers, Steve Sadow and Bradley Horenstein, issued a statement to TMZ, asserting that Ross is being wrongly accused by an ex-girlfriend whose true motivations are unclear. They emphasized that the ex did not file a police report until a month after the alleged incident and stated that Ross is innocent and has pled not guilty to the charges.
The legal team also requested that friends, fans, and the general public not prejudge the situation and allow the judicial process to run its course. Ross is scheduled to be arraigned on October 22.
