During Tuesday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s ‘America’s Newsroom,’ House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) expressed confidence in Republican candidates for the upcoming midterm elections, despite recent polls suggesting a strong Democratic advantage.

Johnson Disputes Polling Data

Johnson, who was in Texas for a series of campaign events, told host Dana Perino that the current polling data is misleading. ‘I’m telling you, the polling is wrong,’ he said, emphasizing that the data does not reflect the energy and enthusiasm seen on the ground.

Perino asked Johnson to explain why he believes the polls are inaccurate. Johnson responded by highlighting a trend in recent polling where Republicans have been consistently underestimated. ‘You have a lot of polling organizations right now acknowledging that they’re undersampling Republicans, because Republicans don’t want to respond to polls anymore,’ he said.

Historical Context and Ground Energy

Johnson pointed to a recent CNN report, which stated that Republicans have been underestimated in October polls in 14 of the last 16 elections dating back to 1994. ‘Don’t buy it,’ he said, adding that the real story lies in the grassroots support and the enthusiasm of Republican voters.

‘I’m on the ground in the swing districts. I am seeing huge energy in crowds. It feels like 2024 to me,’ Johnson said, suggesting that the current political climate is similar to the highly competitive 2024 presidential election cycle. ‘That’s not registering in the polls, and we’re fired up,’ he added.

Call for Defying Odds

Johnson’s comments come as the Republican Party continues to prepare for the midterms, with various states seeing increased campaign activity. His confidence in the party’s chances is echoed by other GOP leaders, who have also expressed optimism about the upcoming elections.

Despite the challenges posed by the current polling landscape, Johnson remains undeterred. His focus is on the real-time engagement of voters and the momentum building within the Republican base. ‘We’re excited,’ he said, reflecting the party’s determination to challenge the narrative presented by the polls.
