Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has vowed that Senate Republicans will not stand idly by as Democrats attempt to reverse their legislative achievements. In a post on X, Thune highlighted the accomplishments of the Republican-led Senate over the past two years, emphasizing progress on public safety, economic growth, and judicial appointments.

Republican Accomplishments Highlighted

Thune emphasized that Senate Republicans have built a strong record of accomplishment, including creating safer streets, putting more money in Americans’ pockets, and providing new opportunities for families and businesses. He noted that the Senate prevented the largest tax hike in American history, secured the border in an unprecedented way, confirmed the president’s Cabinet at the fastest pace in two decades, and appointed strong conservative judges.

Thune’s Response to Democratic Gains

Thune expressed confidence in the work ahead, stating that Senate Republicans will not allow the far-left wing of the Democratic Party to undo their efforts. He praised President Trump’s leadership and reiterated the importance of working with him to counter Democratic extremism.

Thune’s comments come after Democrats secured majorities in the House and Senate, flipping several Senate seats from Republicans in states like Iowa, Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Texas, according to CNBC. President Trump had previously called for Thune to keep the Senate in session to terminate the filibuster and pass the SAVE America Act.

Thune’s post has drawn criticism from various conservative figures, with some calling for him to resign. Conservative journalist Jack Posobiec and The Federalist’s CEO Sean Davis have publicly questioned Thune’s leadership, suggesting that Republicans failed to carry out the will of the people during their time in power.
