President Donald Trump has doubled down on his endorsement of Texas Senate nominee Ken Paxton, calling him ‘the best attorney general in the country’ and asserting that Paxton ‘will be a great Senator’ despite recent leaked audio tapes that have drawn scrutiny from left-wing media.

Leaked Audio Sparks Debate

The Texas Senate race has been rocked by a series of leaked audio recordings of Paxton during private events with GOP operatives, donors, and lobbyists. The recordings, obtained by outlets like the New York Times, Politico, and Axios, have raised questions about Paxton’s campaign strategy and his relationship with the national GOP leadership.

In one recording, Paxton reportedly told conservative donors that the RNC midterm convention hurt his poll numbers, stating that ‘everybody’s numbers dropped’ following the event. Despite the controversy, Trump defended the convention, citing its massive viewership, and continued to campaign for Paxton.

Trump Unfazed by Leaks

Trump recently addressed the leaked audio, brushing off the comments and praising Paxton’s potential as a senator. ‘I haven’t heard that, but I can tell you that the convention was amazing,’ he said, noting that it generated 107 million views.

Two additional audio tapes have since surfaced, with Paxton expressing frustrations about his messaging being controlled by ‘DC’ and acknowledging that his biggest challenges are the war in Iran and high gas prices. However, Trump has remained steadfast in his support, stating, ‘No, no, no, not at all,’ and calling Paxton ‘one of the few best’ attorney generals.

Media Accusations of Targeted Campaign

Trump’s team has accused left-wing media and anonymous leakers of launching a targeted campaign to undermine Paxton and create a rift between him and the former president. The recordings, they argue, are not as damning as they appear and do not include any criticism of Trump or the Republican Party.

Despite the controversy, Trump has continued to campaign for Paxton, holding a rally in San Antonio, Texas, and reaffirming his confidence in the Texas Republican’s ability to win the Senate race.
