President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he had offered the position of White House press secretary to Dana White, the CEO of the UFC. However, according to a report from CNN, White has declined the offer. The announcement came while Trump was at his Florida golf club and took to social media to make the statement.
Trump’s Social Media Post
Trump described White as “the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior,” and said he had asked White to bring multiple UFC fighters to serve as assistants. He emphasized the need for these individuals to defend the administration against the “Lunatic Left,” stating, “Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!”
Update: Dana White has since declined, according to a CNN report.
A response from the White House was not immediately available to inquiries about the post on Truth Social. However, CNN reported, citing a source familiar with the situation, that White had declined the offer. White was at a boxing event in London on Saturday and did not respond to requests for comment.
White shared an image on Instagram of Trump’s post, accompanied by a photo of himself behind the White House press briefing room podium, captioned, “On to the next chapter.”
The offer comes as the White House navigates a transitional period following the Republican Party’s significant defeat in the midterm elections. The Democratic Party’s victories in areas previously controlled by Republicans have led to the loss of both the Senate and House of Representatives.
