President Donald Trump has vowed to appeal a decision by a federal judge in California that blocked the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) attempt to remove 20,000 ballots cast by non-citizens from the final vote count. The judge, David Carter, a Clinton appointee, denied the DOJ’s request to set aside the ballots, which were sent to individuals who are likely aliens.
DOJ Seeks to Remove Illegal Votes
The DOJ filed the lawsuit, arguing that the ballots should be excluded from the final count to ensure the integrity of the electoral process. In its request for a Temporary Restraining Order, the DOJ stated that once illegally cast ballots are counted alongside lawful votes, the resulting harm may be impossible to remedy, especially given the fundamental right to vote and the urgency of the situation.
Judge Rejects DOJ’s Appeal
Despite the DOJ’s efforts, Judge Carter initially assigned the case to a Trump appointee but later reassigned it to himself. The Trump administration then sought intervention from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which denied the appeal and sent the case back to the District Court. However, Carter ultimately denied the lawsuit, citing the availability of legal remedies such as prosecution under Section 611 and California’s procedures to cancel ineligible voter registrations.
Trump Accuses Democrats of Election Fraud
During an interview with The Gateway Pundit’s Jordan Conradson, Trump criticized the state’s elections, calling them “very corrupt” and claiming that the Democrats are attempting to “steal” the election. He stated that if California were honest, he would have won by a large margin, emphasizing the presence of “millions of bad votes” in the state.
Legal and Democratic Concerns
The judge’s ruling highlighted the importance of maintaining trust in the electoral process, noting that eroded trust is irreparable. The decision also emphasized the need to prevent fraud and ensure that only legitimate votes are counted, rather than dismissing the entire process due to unproven allegations.
