Americans’ trust in health information from the federal government has declined since last year, according to an Axios-Ipsos survey released Tuesday. The poll found that 53% of respondents reported having a great deal or a fair amount of trust in health information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), a drop from 62% in March 2025.

Decline in Trust for CDC and Trump

Similarly, the share of Americans who have a “great deal” of belief in the CDC plummeted from 23% to 11% during the same period, according to the poll. The CDC did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Trust in healthcare information from President Donald Trump also declined, with 20% of Americans now expressing trust, compared to 31% in March 2025. Meanwhile, only 25% of respondents currently believe information from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., down from 31% in March 2025.

Low Trust in Congressional Parties

The latest Axios-Ipsos survey also found that only 25% of U.S. adults trust congressional Democrats on health-related topics, while an even lower 20% said the same about congressional Republicans.

Kennedy asserted in a Sept. 3, 2025 X post that the CDC “once stood as the world’s most trusted guardian of public health,” adding that “bureaucracy, politicized science, and mission creep corroded its mission and destroyed public trust.”

Forty-six percent of CDC databases that were previously updated frequently are now outdated, according to a Jan. 26 report from The Scientist. In late September, the CDC updated its webpage related to firearm injury to correct wording that understated the frequency with which guns are used for self-defense, the DCNF previously reported.

The Axios-Ipsos American Health Index survey was conducted from Sept. 25-28. The poll is based on a nationally representative probability sample of 1,122 U.S. adults.
