Vice President JD Vance held a midterm rally in Tyler, Texas, on Tuesday, to support Republican candidates, including Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is running against Democrat state Representative James Talarico for the U.S. Senate. During the event, Vance also announced a partnership between the Trump administration and Delek Refining, a petroleum and gasoline refinery in Tyler, to expand its facilities.
Economic and Energy Benefits
Vance highlighted the potential benefits of the partnership, stating, “What that means for you and your families is lower costs to fly from one place to another, it means lower costs to drive your car into work every single day, it means a more reliable energy supply, but also a stronger national defense, and it will also mean hundreds of good-paying new jobs.” He added, “The message the Democrats sent, and the kind of economy that they were trying to build is one where if your kids had any future at all, they had to leave their homes and leave their communities in order to make it.”
Support for Paxton’s Record
Vance praised Paxton’s record as Texas Attorney General, emphasizing his efforts to protect children and privacy online, as well as his actions against dangerous drugs, including targeting illicit cartel trafficking at the Southern Border and corporate misconduct by pharmaceutical companies. He cited Paxton’s lawsuit against Sanofi and Bristol Myers Squibb for allegedly concealing that the blood thinner Plavix is less effective in certain patient populations.
Vance also noted Paxton’s numerous lawsuits against the Biden administration, which drew cheers from the audience. He remarked, “You know why you don’t mess with Texas? ‘Cause if you do, Ken Paxton is gonna kick your ass, that’s why.”
Criticism of Talarico’s Stance
Vance criticized Talarico for his progressive views, dubbing him “Tala-freak-o” and warning that electing him would “screw up” his vision for Texas. He highlighted Talarico’s statements on gender identity, including his declaration that God is “non-binary,” and his views on transgender medical interventions for minors. Vance also addressed Talarico’s comments on racism, meat consumption, and the U.S. system of policing, emphasizing that Talarico would align with “the rest of the crazies” in Congress.
